So dinner was AAAAMMMAAZZZINGGG! It was so tasty! For dessert I had made a strawberry apple and coconut crumble with custard. Shaun thinks I used too muc cinnamon but I love cinnamon and the kids seemed to enjoy it too! Out of twenty-six of the most popular herbs and spices in the world, cinnamon actually ranks #1 in terms of its protective antioxidant levels! It also has anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting and potential cancer and heart disease-protecting abilities. I just love the sweet warmth to it personally. I never used to like cinnamon it was actually McDonalds apple pies that made me realise how yummy it is! Research also shows that another benefit of cinnamon’s protective antioxidant properties is they can help defend the brain against developing neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Pretty impressive really and so very tasty.
Its quite amazing the health benefits you find in the foods, herbs and spices that have become such an every day essential to us. Yet people don’t tend to learn as much about the real benefits behind what they are eating. Nor do they look much at labels and find how unhealthy a product is. No wonder the human race is in the state it is in. We are oblivious to ourselves really! Myself included, I went to private school had quite a priviledged upbringing yet I was and still am completely ignorant of all the chemicals toxins and god know what else that goes into my body and therefore into my kids.
I used to home cook everything, which to be fair is something I really want to start doing again but I’ll be honest, over the past 2 years especially, I’v been exceptionally lazy when it comes to cooking, in fact i’ve become quite slack in a fair few areas. However I have made a conscious decision that it is going to change. Today while cooking Shaun and I also gave the fridge a good clear out and clean up. Next job will be the freezer and defrosting it, then onto the cupboards. Then once I know I’ve got all that up together we can start to meal plan again and get into some proper order again. Reduce some of the chaos that has become the norm!
How many you meal plan? Do you do it on a weekly, fornightly or monthly cycle? What are your favourite meals? Do you bulk cook anything?
I’d really like to hear any tips and tricks you may have whether they be in cooking, prep or organising. One website I have loved since finding it is www.budget101.com it has some fantastic recipies on it and even some DIY’s for some favourite take away and restaurant style meals. If you havent been on it before you really should take a look!
Going to trial Pepperplate App I’ve heard its pretty good. You can store your recipies in it or copy a recipe from a site with the URL. Create menus and it even helps with cooking times! Add recipes to a schedule to set up a proper meal plan and even use it to make shopping lists! Sounds pretty damn useful to me so il give it a go and let you know how I get on :)
